For many women, your wedding day is one that you’ve dreamed of your entire life. The colors have been decided, the location has been scouted and your Pinterest board has been plastered with everything that could possibly compose the perfect wedding.
Of course, when it all comes down to it, it’s not the details of the day that matter, but the actual sanctification of marriage: two becoming one.
If you ask any bride, the most memorable moments are the details that weren’t carefully planned—but happened by accident or surprise.
That was definitely the case for Jefferson and Jessica.
The Portuguese couple tied the knot in a beautiful wedding ceremony that would leave anyone feeling emotional. But when it came time to exchange vows, things took a dramatic turn.
Jefferson began reading his vows, but then told Jessica that he loved somebody else.

The groom turned to another girl in the bridal party—Jessica’s eight-year-old daughter, Giovanna.
Jessica wasn’t the only person Jefferson was vowing to love, protect, care for and be faithful to for the rest of his days. Marrying his bride meant being all of those things to Giovanna as well.

“If I could ask God anything, it would be to have you as my daughter,” he said to Giovanna after sharing his vows with Jessica. “I would be the proudest father in the world to have such a beautiful, intelligent and educated daughter like you,”
As you can imagine, there was not a dry eye in the room—including those of the bride, groom and the little lady being showered by her step-dad’s love.
Jefferson committed himself and his love to Giovanna in a similar way he did to her mom, leaving this lucky 8-year-old grinning from ear-to-ear.

“I also give you love, my love, to take care of you, to always protect you and to not let anything bad to happen to you.”
Jefferson’s gesture is one full of the emotion and love that can’t be planned because it’s genuine, raw and real.
