It’s rare to hear of a Hollywood marriage that lasts. Just this week we learned yet another high-profile power couple, Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, are calling it quits. But one marriage that has withstood the test of time and fame is that of music legend Jon Bon Jovi.
After growing up in New Jersey, the high school sweethearts took off to Vegas 28 years ago, and haven’t looked back since.
So what is the secret to their successful marriage amidst all the fame, fortune and temptation?
Well, it’s not “Livin’ on a Prayer,” if that’s what you were thinking.
“I just know I got it right the first time,” Bon Jovi says.
Beyond just “getting it right,” the musician credits his wife, Dorothea, for the balance she brings to his life.
“I’m the crazy visionary with all kinds of things flying, and the seams are all splitting. She’s the one following me with the glue and the thread and the needle, keeping it all together.”
In their almost three decades of marriage, the couple has raised four children, who range in age from 13 to 24.
Still, he says the greatest thing that’s carried them through is growing together, where many couples tend to grow apart.
“We grew equally and not in opposite directions,” he says.
Acknowledging that his committed marriage has made him the “poster child” for rock star marriages that last, Bon Jovi admits it’s a title he’ll gladly accept.
