Hero 5-Year-Old Rescues Parents Who Overdosed on Heroin

I have to believe that no parent enters into parenthood with the desire to give their kids the life of a drug addict. One that’s full of neglect, confusion and riding the rollercoaster of an addict’s mood swings.

Nobody wants that life for their child, but far too many children are unfortunately forced to live it.

A 5-year-old boy from Middletown, Ohio, is being hailed a hero after saving four lives on Thursday upon finding his parents “dead” from heroin overdose.

According to the Middletown Division of police, officers responded to a disturbing call on May 18 in which a 5-year-old boy walked two blocks, barefoot, at 5 a.m. to a relative’s house. He claimed his parents were dead.

“Officers Ryan Morgan and Trey Porter arrived on scene along with the fire department and went to the boy’s home and found that both parents had overdosed on heroin,” the division shared on their Facebook page. “Our Paramedics, doing what they do on a daily basis, were able to revive both parents.”

Not only were the parents passed out on the floor of their Middletown home, but inside the house was also a 3-month-old baby girl.

The parents, who are alive today because of the brave actions of their young son, are now facing child-endangerment charges.

“This 5-year-old child, a hero, saved 3 lives today. How can something so awesome be so sad all at the same time? We brought the young boy and infant into the police department after the incident. He was given a badge for being so brave.”

The incident is just one of the many cases plaguing the state of Ohio, which is home to a widespread heroin and opioid epidemic. The situation is so bad that police stations in some counties have had to request cold-storage trailers from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, due to the lack of space for incoming bodies at the morgues.

Middletown Division of Police ended their post with a plea to the community:

“IT HAS TO STOP! PLEASE get help before it’s too late. Not only to save yourself, but to save your kids. Give these kids a chance by getting help. If you or someone you love has a drug problem, please seek help right now.”

They also included a list of resources for those who need it.

No child should ever have to worry about finding their parents dead on the floor. This little boy is a hero, and we are praying that he and his little sister are placed in the safe environment that they deserve.
