Their Love Was So Strong They Refused to Live Apart–So They Died Together

Theirs was a timeless love story.

Reading about their lives will take your breath away.

Alexander and Jeanette Toczko were married for 75 years. According to their son, Rich, the pair had been in love since they were only 8-years-old. So it was only fitting that the couple who began their lives together would pass away in one another’s arms.

“Their hearts beat as one from as long as I can remember,” says the couple’s daughter, Aimee Toczko-Cushman.

They kept the spark alive and were married in 1940. Together, the couple weathered times both beautiful and difficult.

Alexander, a World War II veteran, recently suffered a broken hip. Their children knew Alexander didn’t have much time left.

Rich and Aimee recalled their mother’s wish– to celebrate her 75th wedding anniversary. As the date drew nearer, Jeanette’s anticipation grew. The family decided to throw them a small celebration a few weeks early, complete with balloons and decorations.

Alexander passed away on June 17, 2015. Aimee recalled the event, saying, “[My mom] hugged him and she said, ‘See, this is what you wanted. You died in my arms and I love you. I love you, wait for me. I’ll be there soon.”

True to her word, Jeanette joined her husband in heaven only 24 arms later.

“Even the hospice nurse said it was the most incredible thing to see the two of them taking those last breaths together,” Aimee said.
