Internet Cry-Laughs Over Son’s Reaction to Scream-Activated Spider Mom Bought for Christmas

With Christmas right around the corner, so is the season of stocking stuffing and gift giving. Typically, the gift exchange happens on the morning of the 25th or in some cases, Christmas Eve.

BUT sometimes, when we’ve found just the PERFECT give for our loved one, we simply can’t WAIT ’til that special day rolls around to see their eyes light up with joy… or in Hilary Hard‘s case — sheer terror.

The 22-year-old mother from Huntsville, Alabama just knew she found the perfect toy for her energetic little boy Leo when she came across “Yellies”, scream-activated spiders that move faster the louder you yell.

Well…what seemed like the gift of her son’s dreams ended up being one of his nightmares.

The expression on Leo’s face here just about says it all:

Along with the screen cap above, Hilary shared a video and frightfully hilarious tale of how events unfolded once Leo came face-to-face with his little “Skadoodle” spider toy:

“Let me share with y’all a massive mom fail I experienced tonight. So about a week ago, I noticed this toy for sale on Amazon. They’re called ‘Yellies’ and the whole concept is that the louder you yell at it, the faster it goes. Being the mother of a naturally loud and boisterous kid, I thought it would be the perfect Christmas present… well I couldn’t wait for Christmas. So I crack it open tonight, and get a good look at it. I test it out. I’m amazed at how powerful the little motor is… how fast the little legs move… how its creepy little eyes glow a lovely shade of radioactive green. So I call Leo in. He looks at it, cocks his little head to the side. And then, obviously, I yelled at it. The spider ran for it. Leo starts screaming… the louder he screams, the faster the spider pursued him. He runs. And this is when we discovered the fun little feature in which the spider has a tendency to stop abruptly… pause for a couple seconds… spin in several erratic circles… and then turn towards wherever it senses sound… and take off in that direction. More screaming. Spider runs faster. Leo is backed into a corner as murder glows green in the eyes of little ‘Skadoodle.’ So, in short, maybe a little electronic spider thats power source feeds off of screams of terror… is not the best Christmas gift for your small child. 10 years from now we’ll be discussing this in therapy. #merrychristmas#ontheseconddayofchristmasmymamagavetome#nightterrorsandalifetimeofanxiety

Since posting it on Facebook last week, Hilary’s story has been shared over 143,000 times.

“I’m so glad my little man made you laugh and impressed you with his bravery,” the surprised mama wrote in response. “You can imagine how lucky I am to be Leo’s mom. He’s hilarious and full of heart and I can’t wait to share with him, when he’s older, how many people he made laugh. There’s an overwhelming amount of attention that’s come our way recently and I just want to thank you all for sharing the moment with us!”

If little Leo’s story gave you a giggle too, be sure to SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!
