Mother Perplexed When Adoptive Family Refuses Her Baby Born With Special Needs

After a mother gives birth to her baby born with special needs, she learns the adoptive family who was to adopt the child had walked away.

Meet Abigail, a Baby Born With Special Needs

In 2015, when 36-year-old Christina Fischer of Fort Walton Beach, Florida learned she was pregnant, it was a surprise considering she considered herself to be past the season of motherhood.

This single mom had already raised a daughter and at the time, had a grown daughter, Debra, who was 18-years-old and living in Louisiana with Fischer’s family as she finished high school. Describing her living situation in an RV park called Playground RV, she said that near the end of the pregnancy, she was “basically homeless” when the RV park closed.

“I wasn’t ready to start again,” the mother told a local news station.

In addition, the baby’s father was not around, and she didn’t feel she could care for a child in the way it would need to be cared for.

Being someone who didn’t believe in abortion, Fischer determined to carry the child to term and give her up for adoption.

This biological mother then went searching for an adoption agency that could help her find a home for the baby when it was born, and a family was found in the nearby state of Georgia.

From the time that an agreement was reached with the adoptive family, Fischer kept in communication with them, sharing details weekly about her pregnancy and the progress of the child.

And Fischer reports that nothing indicated to her that it would be a baby born with special needs.

“Nothing was detected. They just told me her ears looked a little small,” Fischer told a local news outlet, the Northwest Florida Daily News.

So when Fischer gave birth to Abigail Lynn on January 11, 2016, she was surprised to learn that the baby born with special needs.

This sweet child was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, which is a rare genetic condition in which a person’s bones don’t develop in their face, such as the cheekbones and jaw. In addition to this, the baby born with special needs had some eye abnormalities and respiratory issues caused by Treacher Collins Syndrome.

This condition impacts about one in every 50,0000 babies.

Inside Edition shares photos of the baby and her biological mother in this YouTube video:

When Fischer saw her biological daughter, she thought she was beautiful and perfect, calling her “a little angel.” The diagnosis didn’t faze her.

Doctors say that while an individual with this condition may need reconstructive surgery, he or she will likely live a typical life, despite the disorder. This condition doesn’t impact brain functioning.

Because Abigail was to be adopted, the adoptive mother from Georgia was at the hospital ready to take her.

Fischer told news outlets of the mother, “I let her take the other wristband into the NICU [to see the baby.]. She came out crying, and left the hospital.”

Apparently when the adoptive mom saw the baby born with special needs, she decided she didn’t want to keep her and left, never again to be heard from.

So what happened to this baby abandoned by her adoptive parents?
