Kind Stranger in Kroger Pays for Woman’s Groceries to Thank Deployed Husband for His Service

Land of the free because of the brave.

No statement has ever been more accurate in describing the freedoms we have and the sacrifice that so many of our brothers and sisters selflessly give.

It’s a sacrifice that Casey Carpenter understands full-well. And as if having her husband deployed overseas wasn’t enough of a reminder, a man in her local grocery store definitely was.

“I went to Kroger tonight wearing one of my husband’s sweatshirts,” Casey wrote on Facebook. “I got in line to check out and the man in front of me asked if the sweatshirt was mine. I said, ‘Oh no, it’s my husband’s.’”

She said the man’s question caught her off-guard, but before she had much time to think about it, he’d moved onto asking if her husband was with her.

“He then asked if Austin was with me so he could say thank you and I just said ‘Thank you, but unfortunately, he’s deployed right now.’”

That’s when the man did something Casey never saw coming.

Without hesitation, he began unloading all of Casey’s groceries out of her cart and placing them on the conveyor belt with his. He told her he’d be paying for her groceries tonight—all of them.

“I was speechless. The only thing I could get out was, ‘oh my gosh, are you sure, thank you so much’ almost a dozen times.

He said, ‘That place over there almost took me away from my wife and my four kids. Promise you’ll stay true and honest to him while he’s gone and love him like you’ve never loved him before when he gets home.’”

Grateful and touched by his service, Casey agreed. She says she’s still in shock that a complete stranger would do something so kind for her. It’s the reminder we all could use about how much GOOD there really is in the world.

May this inspire you to share a random act of kindness with someone else today!
