Bachelorette Speaks Out After Backlash: “I Refuse to Believe I Give Christians a Bad Name”

This season’s Bachelorette, Hannah Brown, has taken some serious heat for her controversial comments on sin and premarital sex.

“I have had sex, and honestly, Jesus still loves me,” the 24-year-old pageant queen infamously told contestant Luke P in the most-talked-about promo of the season.

“Regardless of anything that I’ve done, I can do whatever, I sin daily and Jesus still loves me,” she further explained to Entertainment Weekly after the comment stirred up controversy amidst fans. “It’s all washed and if the Lord doesn’t judge me and it’s all forgiven, then no other man, woman, animal … anything can judge me.”

“I think there was just a moment where I was in a place where I felt that I was being looked at differently than who I actually am,” she told E! News. “And I don’t want to be judged for that because nobody should ever be judged for anything that they do because we’re supposed to love each other, not judge.”

“Regardless of anything that I’ve done that people might think ‘Oh wow, that deserves a scarlet letter,’ that’s not how it works,” she added.

Hannah B’s explanation of her widely publicized comment only ignited further backlash after many pointed out that the professing Christian is twisting the [G]ospel and “abusing grace.”

However, the spitfire Miss Alabama refuses to accept that she’s “giving Christians a bad name.”

In a viral Instagram post shared on Wednesday, Hannah B poured her heart out to fans, explaining she is merely one of the many humans who has fallen short of the glory of God:

“I refuse to not stand in the sun. I refuse to feel shame. I refuse to believe the lies and evil that flood my comments. I am standing firm in believing that maybe God wants to use a mess like me to point to His goodness and grace. But dang, it’s hard. The amount of hate I and the men on this journey with me receive…it’s chilling to know so many people want to spread hurt so recklessly. We all fall short of the glory of God…we just happen to do it on national television.”

I refuse to not stand in the sun. We all fall short of the glory of God…we just happen to do it on national television. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve realized that a lot of the things that Satan uses to hurt me, come in the form of many of your comments— he uses a grain of truth to steer to evil lies. “You’re not enough, you’re dirty, you’re dumb, you’re immature, you’re not worthy…”. It’s upsetting to get messages from Christians telling me I give Christians a bad name. I’ve lived my life for the world to see and judge and absolutely, I’m hot mess on a stick, I blew it a few times…but I refuse to believe I give Christians a bad name. I’m an imperfect human. Who is yes, also a Christian. And God has a master plan for all the failures I continue to learn and grow from to work out for good, and for his glory. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you to those who continue to support me and my guys as we open our hearts to each other, and in turn…you! We appreciate you and your kindness! ♥️
