Last August, after being pulled from the rubble in an attack on his home in Aleppo, 3-year-old Omran Daqneesh became the boy behind an iconic photo.

Sitting in an ambulance covered in dust and with blood on his face, Omran’s blank stare was an international wake up call to every nation that we have a duty to serve and protect those who no longer have a voice—or never did to begin with.
His image spread like wildfire across the media as a haunting image of the Assad regime’s brutality and force in Syria.
This week, new images have emerged showing Omran appearing to be healthy and safe—at home with his father for their first interviews with press since their home was claimed in an air strike.

Omran’s older brother, Ali, was killed in the blast.
The young boy’s father, Mohamad Kheir Daqneesh, said in an interview that he had initially feared for his son’s safety after Omran inadvertently became the poster child for peacemakers.

Today, the remaining family is reportedly living in a government controlled area of Aleppo.
There is no telling what could happen day-to-day as far as the Syrian war is concerned, but our prayers are with the victims of the brutality. No one should have to wake up every morning wondering if today is the day they’re going to die.
