Toddler’s Viral Response to Cashier Who Told Her to Get a Doll That “Looks Like” Her Is Total Perfection

Like many parents, Nick and Brandi Benner resorted to bribery when it came to getting their daughter, Sophia, to stop having accidents in her pants.

Once the toddler was able to poop on the potty for one month, she was going to get the reward of her dreams! At no surprise to her parents, Sophia set her sights on a new doll.

“The obsession is real,” Brandi said of her daughter’s love for dolls.

The day finally came. Sophia had successfully pooped on the toilet for one month, and boy was she excited to go pick out her new toy! But as they proceeded to checkout, one cashier decided to stick her nose where it didn’t belong.

She asked Sophia if she was going to a birthday party. The question left Brandi perplexed. She wasn’t sure what about the toy would cause the woman to ask her toddler if it was a birthday gift.

“She then pointed to the doll and asked Sophia if she picked her out for a friend. Sophia continued to stare blankly and I let the cashier know that she was a prize for Sophia being fully potty trained.“

Brandi says that the cashier looked at her confused before continuing to converse with Sophia, asking if she was sure it was the doll she wanted.

“The woman gave me a puzzled look and turned to Sophia and asked, “Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?”

The young girl enthusiastically replied, “Yes, please!” but the cashier was still puzzled. She continued:

“But she doesn’t look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you.”

The woman’s response hit Brandi’s last nerve, but before mama bear could react, Sophia let out the most beautiful response.

“Yes, she does. She’s a doctor like I’m a doctor. And I’m a pretty girl and she’s a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?”

Wise words from miss Sophia.

Brandi says the cashier finally dropped the conversation after that by simply saying, “Oh, that’s nice.” It’s probably a good thing that she did, cause this mama was not about to have a stranger teaching her daughter to see race. Brandi wrote about the exchange on Facebook, and shared an awesome takeaway that we can all learn from:

“This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren’t born with the idea that color matters. Skin comes in different colors just like hair and eyes, and every shade is beautiful.”

Brandi’s viral post has now been shared, liked and commented by over 700,000 people since it was posted to Facebook last week. If this beautiful story of color-blind love inspired you too, please share it with your friends and family! ❤️
