I am an assistant principal in a middle school (grades 6-8). When I have to search a student's cell phone, I often get sick to my stomach at what I find. It gets worse and worse every year.
“Daddy, are we lost?” She asked, with a quiver to her voice. It turns out she was very frightened. She didn’t recognize our surroundings, it was dark outside, and she couldn’t see what lay ahead.
"As she sat on a bench next to a statue of an African American girl I asked her if she had any questions. I assumed she would, but I really didn’t expect what she said next."
