She Recreated Celebrity Instagram Pics—& Just Gave the Internet 1 HYSTERICAL Dose of Reality

We all can get a little sick with inadequacy when we take a peek at the oh-so-perfect celebrity Instagram pics that pop up in our feeds, but that’s exactly why Australian comedian Celeste Barber decided to do something about it.

“Some celebrities on Instagram seem to think we non-rich, non-privileged people are idiots and believe that what they are posting is real,” Celeste told BuzzFeed. “I wanted to try to show how ridiculous it would be for a ‘normal’ person to recreate some of these photos.”

She told PEOPLE, “I’m an actor and comedian, so I started #celestechallengeaccepted to make people laugh. I wanted to see how I would look if I attempted to recreate some really privileged people’s ‘everyday, normal’ selfies. I also like to challenge myself. I really thought I could do the splits like Serena—turns out, I can’t.”

While Celeste may make a living as a comedian, her end goal wasn’t just to make a joke. “I want to make people laugh and show how the majority of what we see from our idols is [bull],” she says.

Celeste has received an overwhelmingly positive response from her creations, telling BuzzFeed, “I get a lot of really positive feed back, like ‘Thanks for making me not feel so [crappy] about myself,’ and ‘Thanks for keeping it real.’”

But of course, she has some haters too. “I get the odd ‘You are fat, no one likes you,’ but thats OK, I have a really hot husband so I know that someone likes me,” she said jokingly.

We all know that what we see in the glam world of Hollywood is a staged, photoshopped and “filtered” fantasy, but it’s always refreshing for someone to bring it to our attention in such hilarious “unfiltered” glory.

Way to keep it real, Celeste. All of us ‘normal’ folk salute you.
