‘Jesus, Mary, and Joseph?’ Celtics Coach Answers With the ‘Only Royal Family He Knows’

Basketball fans everywhere enjoy the season spanning several months and hundreds of games. When the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat went head-to-head, the Celtics Coach made headlines for more than his incredible win as an interim coach.

Former Assistant Coach, Joe Mazzulla, began the season as interim coach for the Boston Celtics. And leading the team to a staggering winning standing at the top of the Eastern Conference is an impressive accomplishment.

At the Boston Celtics game against the Miami Heat, Prince William and Kate Middleton sat courtside to cheer on the Celtics.

Celtics Coach says he’s ‘only familiar with one royal family’

In a press conference following the game, reporters fired questions at the winning interim coach. As always, questions included the highs and lows of the game and what the team will learn from this game. With Prince William and Kate Middleton (a.k.a. the royal family) in attendance, one reporter jumped at the chance to get the coach’s opinion of the special guests.

The press video captures an interaction between a reporter and Coach Joe Mazzulla of the Boston Celtics. The Celtics Coach was clearly unimpressed with the attention given to the British royal family.

Reporter: “Did you get a chance to meet with the royal family? And, if not, what was it like having them there in the building?”

Coach: “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph?”

[Laughter]

Reporter: “The prince and princess of Wales.”

Coach: “Oh, no, I did not. I’m only familiar with one royal family. I don’t know too much about that one. Thank you.”

[From within the crowd: “Any other questions?”]

Coach: “But I’m glad — hopefully, they’re Celtic fans.”
