The Bible has lots to say about our speech and how we use our words, but when it comes to cussing, it’s one of those areas that starts to slip into the shades of spiritual gray.
As stated in James 3:5, “So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!”
The smallest 4-letter word can have large, lasting impact, whether we realize it or not. It’s quite amazing that the same tongue can be used to offer praises to God, slay the enemy, build up a friend, and reap destruction on a foe, all in the same breathe.
Christians have quite varying perspectives on what actually constitutes “cussing.” However, when we fully understand how God has intended for us to use our language, we can truly open our own eyes to the power and implications behind the words we choose to use.
