While a lot of girls dream about their wedding day, there’s usually someone who’s dreading it—the father. Even if the soon-to-be groom is the perfect knight in shining armor, it is never easy to let your little girl go. This dad in particular really didn’t know what he was going to say to his daughter, so he decided to say nothing at all and try something a little different to show her how much she meant to him.
Nicole Cortez posted the following video of her dad SIGNING the words to the hit song “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. Cortez isn’t deaf, but she is a sign language interpreter and is very passionate about helping those who can’t hear. The best part? She had no clue her dad even knew sign language—until now. Her father actually spent a year learning how to sign just for this exact moment. According to a comment by Nicole, he took the initiative to learn it all by himself online.
Nicole wrote on YouTube, “At my wedding reception my dad surprises my new husband and I by signing a beautiful song. I am a sign language interpreter so this meant the world to me. He said it took him the entire year I was engaged to learn how to sign this song.”
The speechless moment left the bride and groom in tears, and since it was posted, over 22 million people have watched the emotional performance that’s bound to leave you crying too!
(Make sure you don’t miss the end where dad shows off his favorite phrase in sign language, “I’m watching you,” to his new son-in-law. So GOOD!!)
