When Caroline’s dad, Sgt. Mike Smith, one of the five police officers killed in the Dallas shooting, said goodbye to her on the day he would die—he said something chilling to his daughter.
“He was leaving to go to work,” Caroline says, “and I was leaving to go to a movie, and he said to me, ‘What if this is the last time you ever kiss me or hug me?'”
These words would turn out to be the last words he said to his precious daughter before a gunman took his life on the Dallas streets during protests.
Today is the day of his funeral, the first of the five officers who gave their lives, and we urge you to pause with us to remember their sacrifice, to remember their families left behind to deal with the pain and loss, and to pray for them with deep and powerful prayers of healing and hope in the midst of tragedy.
