Ellen Tears Up Paying Tribute to Friend Kobe Bryant on Her Show

The nation lost a legend on Sunday when a helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant and his teen daughter Gianna crashed in Calabasas, California, killing all nine passengers on board. Though Kobe was most celebrated for his accomplishments on the basketball court, he was also a loving family man and a generous soul who enjoyed giving back to the community.

Ellen Degeneres, a friend of the retired Lakers star, paid tribute to him today on her show, reflecting on the time he spent in her famous white seats.

“Kobe was a legend who will always be remembered for what he accomplished on the basketball court,” said Ellen, as she choked back tears. “But he also will be remembered for his kindness and the times he helped us give back to deserving people on our show,” she added.
