NFL Star Cries After Not Making the Draft—but the Truth Behind His Tears Shook Me to the Core

Eric Striker was a standout linebacker for the for the Oklahoma Sooners, but in a startling upset, he went undrafted in the 2016 NFL draft. He was surrounded by family and loved ones who were awaiting a celebration on his big day, so as a means of lifting their spirits amidst the disappointing news, Striker shared a bigger reason to celebrate outside of the NFL.

By the end of his one-minute speech, Striker was in tears—but it’s not because he didn’t get picked. He knew this was bigger than the draft. “I’m crying because all of y’all came to share this with me,” he said as he wiped away his tears.

Striker’s words are such a powerful reminder that in the face of rejection, perseverance will prevail and the love of our family will always trump the fulfillment in football or any other worldly endeavor.
