The Great Smoky Mountains have been a great-bit smokier this past week as deadly wildfires have swept through Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Tragically, at least 10 deaths have been reported since the horrific fires have torn through the city, and many more citizens are suffering severe damages to their homes.
As some residents are beginning to return to inspect the damage, one homeowner returned to nothing but a statue.
The Sevier County house was destroyed by fires this week, but the statue that survived was just what we all need. It was a statue of Jesus.
The photo went viral today after local news reporter, Kelsey Leyrer shared it on Twitter.
More than 14,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. At least 10 people have died, and more than 80 injured since the start of the fires. But it is miraculous signs like this statue and the single Bible page that survived the nearby fire in Dollywood that continue to give the people of Gatlinburg hope.
Dolly Parton, the owner of the Tennessee-based theme park, expressed her deepest heartbreak in a video released this morning. The songstress pledged to donate $1,000 each month to Sevier County families who lost their homes.
Please join us in praying for the families who lost love ones in the Gatlinburg fires and for those working to restore their homes amidst this great tragedy.
