Brandy Mosley’s final moments were spent saving the life of her 4-year-old son, Toran.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for their friends.” John 15:13
While visiting Crystal Beach in Bolivar, Texas, last Monday, Toran was playing in the surf when the waves started tossing him around more than he could handle. Though he was wearing water wings, they didn’t stand a chance against the strength of the waves.
Brandy saw a wave pummel her son, and raced toward him when he was unable to stand back up.

The 33-year-old was able to get to her son, pull him from the water and hand him to a relative who was standing behind her.
But as the relative worked their way back to the beach with Toran in tow, it was Brandy who needed a lifeline.
Unusually rough water caused by high-speed winds pulled Brandy out under the water before anyone could react.
“They turned around and noticed she was not visible,” said Major Douglas Hudson of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. “It happened that quick. This all happened about 25 feet from shore.”
The beach had no lifeguards, and no way of saving the woman who had just saved her own son’s life.
Authorities searched for hours, hoping to bring some news and relief to Brandy’s family and friends. Abby Mares told ABC 7:
“It has been really rough lying in bed all night just listening to the helicopters. I just prayed. […] But I know that God’s plan is perfect and that she would want me to have faith through this.”
Early Tuesday morning, search crews found a body matching the young mother’s description.
Friends and family gathered in Brandy’s hometown of Palestine, Texas, to grieve the beautiful self-made businesswoman who embodied John 15:13. Brandy would do anything for a friend, and it was no secret that Toran was the light of her world.
Just two months before her tragic death, Brandy had posted a message on Facebook talking about how grateful she is for the gift of her son—the one thing she never knew she needed:
“Anyone who knows me personally knows I never wanted kids. And I don’t want any more, so let’s not get carried away. But this morning, when Toran woke up, I said ‘Good morning, Handsome’ and he replied ‘Good morning, my precious mama’. OH MY GOD! God’s plans are always better than ours.”
It’s hard to understand now, but I have no doubt that God’s plans for Toran and the rest of Brandy’s family are far greater than anything they can comprehend. Prayers to them as they remember the incredible mother and daughter they were blessed to spend a part of their life with.
