Between studying for math tests and writing English papers, students at James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia, found time and resources to give their beloved custodian, Francis Apraku, his dream vehicle—a Jeep.

“He’s more than just a custodian,” a student told local 11 News.

VA High School Students Surprise Beloved Custodian Francis Apraku With a New Jeep

Francis Apraku has worked at James Madison High School cleaning rooms and caring for the facility that is focused on education. But, that’s not what he’s known for. Apraku takes the time to get to know the students and engage with them each day.

“He’s a bundle of joy,” a student said to 11 News. “He would always pray for us before football games freshman year. He would always support us—no matter what.”

As the students got to know Apraku, they found out he had a special love for Jeep Wranglers and always desired to have one of his own. The high schoolers came up with the idea of gifting Apraku with a Jeep in “appreciation for all that he does.”

The surprise gift took quite a bit of planning and connections. The students set up a GoFundMe in attempts to raise thousands of dollars to fund the vehicle. They ended up raising $20,000. They also asked a local dealership to help with finding just the right vehicle.

“He’s more than just a custodian. He’s a dear friend to all of us. He’s just a very kind, genuine person,” another student told 11 News.

The high schoolers were excited to surprise Apraku with a bright red Jeep Wrangler just as the school year started.

“Today is a wonderful day in my life, and I will never forget it,” Apraku said. Watch Apraku’s excited reaction to the gift.

One student shared how glad they are to see Apraku enjoying his new Jeep. “I’m excited to see him whipping it around school, seeing him every day… He really deserves it,” he said.
