As Her Husband Fights for His Life, This Mom of 4 Waits Tables—Then She Gets a $12,000 Tip

We’ve all seen the stories of waitresses receiving life-changing tips, but it’s the magnitude of this tip that’s gaining national attention.

Jessica Reboredo and her husband Robert met through mutual friends and immediately knew they were meant for each other. It wasn’t long before the couple began rapidly growing their family.

With a four-year-old, twin two-year-olds and a six-month-old keeping her busy, it’s amazing that Jessica has time for anything else.

But what her customers don’t know is that Jessica’s husband, Robert, is fighting for his life nearly 300 miles away.

Robert was originally diagnosed with testicular cancer, which quickly spread to his stomach and his lungs. After being air-lifted from their Las Vegas home to a hospital in Los Angeles, Robert is now receiving treatments there. Jessica travels back and forth by van to be with her husband and continue working to pay their unimaginable bills. She can’t afford to miss work.

After hearing Jessica’s story, the Fox 5 Surprise Squad were on a mission to help. They set up “secret shoppers” around the Chili’s where Jessica works. Each would eat as a regular customer, then leave her a massive cash tip—each one greater than the last.

Eventually the Surprise Squad team stepped in, and  explained what was going on. Then they gave Jessica an additional $10,000 tip, told her they would be paying for her hotel stays so she can go be by her husband’s side—and oh yeah, they gave her a brand new car.

How’s that for an incredible tip?

Robert put up a tough fight, but passed away on August 12, 2016. He was 25 years old.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to further help Jessica and the kids.
