“I Identify Myself as a Child of God”: ‘Black Panther’ Star Letitia Wright Delivers God-Inspired Awards Speech

Actress Letitia Wright, one of the stars of the 2018 blockbuster hit “Black Panther”, gave a compelling, faith-filled speech last night after receiving the “Rising Star” award at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

“I identify myself as a child of God, and I can’t get up here without thanking God,” Letitia humbly declared upon taking the stage.

Wright then proceeded to get vulnerable with the audience in sharing about her struggle with depression that had her ready to give up on acting.

“A few years ago, I saw myself in a deep state of depression and I literally wanted to quit acting,” said the young actress. “The only thing that pulled me out of it was God, my belief, my faith and my family, and an email from BAFTA asking me to become part of the BAFTA Breakthrough Brits.”

“I was like: ‘Let me try again,’” Wright explained of the pivotal moment in her career.

After “Black Panther” became the second-highest grossing four-day opening in movie history ($242 million), Wright’s wild success launched her into superstardom, but she holds that her rise to fame “wasn’t a click of a finger success.”

“I want to thank everybody who said ‘yes’ to me, that gave me a chance, and just saw my talent and saw what God placed in me, and said ‘yes,’ ” she shared, before delivering an encouraging faith-inspired message to listeners:

“I want to encourage young people. Matter of fact, you don’t even have to be young, you can be any age, but I just want to encourage you — anyone that’s going through a hard time…Or something in their soul or that they’ve lost their light, I want to encourage you that God made you and you’re important. There might be some of you here that’s going through depression, that’s going through a bad time and you’re putting a smile on your face, and nobody can see that — but you know it, and God knows it. And I just want to encourage you, and I just want to say that God loves you, and just let your light shine.”
