In his not-so-pristine past, Justin Bieber’s track record has included everything from public urination charges to drag-racing his yellow Lamborghini while intoxicated. Needless to say, it hasn’t been so easy for the pop star to shed his “bad boy” persona, in spite of his recent efforts to live a life boldly for Jesus.
But as the years go on, it seems Bieber is continuing to make efforts to align his values and actions with Christian ideals that glorify God. And his recent marriage to model Hailey Baldwin is no exception.

In an interview with Vogue, the singer revealed that he had a “legitimate problem with sex,” citing the addiction as a vice that no longer gave him any pleasure. In a conscious effort to change his ways and break the addiction, Bieber remained celibate for over a year before meeting his now-wife at a Miami conference.
Bieber opened up about his and Baldwin’s decision to save sex for marriage after rekindling their relationship, as well as the role it’s played in drawing him closer to God.
“[God] doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” said Bieber. “He’s like, ‘I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain.’ I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that.”
“I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul,” he added. “And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior.”
The couple married in a New York courthouse last September after dating for 3 months, and they are still planning their wedding party with friends and family to celebrate their union.
While Bieber admitted that sex did play a factor in them quickly tying the knot, Baldwin shared that the real “common denominator” that has made the two so compatible was “always church.”
“I prayed to feel peace about the decision [to get married], and that’s where I landed,” said the new Mrs. Bieber. “I love him very much. I have loved him for a long time.”
“We’re really young, and that’s a scary aspect. We’re going to change a lot,” continued the 22-year-old. “But we’re committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes. That’s how I look at it. At the end of the day, too, he’s my best friend. I never get sick of him.”
