Connie had been true to her word to the cops. She said, “I told them months ago that if they don’t do it, I told them that one of these days, I’m going to do it myself.”
And for her, it’s a good thing she was. After only two hours using the sump pump, they spotted bones and the Missouri mom called the Akers, the county coroner to tell him.
Of the spotting, the Missouri mom shared, “We saw two bones sticking up, so we kept pumping and then the next thing you know we started seeing the concrete blocks and then barbed wire and more bones.”
Although Akers warned that walking through the mud could be dangerous, Gage, who is now 22, was eager to get an up-close look.
Connie told reporters, “The next thing you know, my grandson, he’s tall and slender-built, took off in a running stance through that mud. It was up to his knees.”
Akers came to help soon, and together they collected Edward’s remains, placed them on a kayak, and took them to the shore of the pond.
“The mud was two to three feet deep, very thick, and infested with wildlife,” Akers, the county corner told People. Akers also explained that Edward Goodwin’s dental records linked him directly to the body.
Now the family has laid Edward to rest and had an opportunity to say goodbye.
Talking of why she drained a pond to find her son’s remains, Connie said, “”It was a sad day. It was a joyful day, too, because we could bring our son home.”
In memory of her son, Connie Goodwin added, “”He was a loving father; he was a loving son, and he’d do anything for anyone…He loved his whole family and his family loved him.”
