The analogy “like a kid on Christmas” has long been used to convey the excitement that lights up our children’s eyes when they unwrap those much-anticipated gifts from Santa on Christmas morn.
But nobody does that age-old phrase justice quite like these three siblings who have been awaiting the gift they thought they’d NEVER receive for half a decade—and in kid years, that’s a LONG time.
“Our kids wanted a dog for a long time—about 5 years,” wrote the mother who submitted the video to Love What Matters. “In fact, our two older kids made a power point presentation a couple of years earlier, on why getting a dog was a good idea.”
However, this tough mama wasn’t budging on her no-pets stance.
“We did not have any pets, and told them we were not getting any. Every Christmas and birthday, they would ask for a dog; but they had pretty much given up… thinking it would never happen.”
But this year, she had a change of heart, and decided to surprise her son and two daughters with a dog just before Christmas.
And there are HARDLY WORDS to describe the explosion of emotion that ensued. Upon lifting up the wrapped box-top to find their very own puppy underneath, all three kids burst into uncontrollable tears. Between the deep gasps, waterfalls pouring down their faces, and total body collapse into the living room chair—I think it’s safe to say they were SURPRISED.
Watch this adorable surprise unfold in the video below, and SHARE it with a friend who could use a few tears of joy in their life today.

So, we decided to give the dog to them before Christmas. As you can see, they were extremely surprised and overcome with emotion!”
