Calls from the Jacksonville number persisted, however; so he stopped ignoring them, and that’s when he learned he may be talking with the owner of the $40 platinum ring.
The caller was the owner’s husband, and cook and the family set up a Facetime video so Cook could ensure it was really the owner.
Once confirmed, Cook showed the ring and the reaction was elation. Cook said, “They were pretty happy. The wife was on a Facetime call, and she just said, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe it,’ and then she just started crying.”
A few days later, Cook and the husband met at a hotel in the area and the ring found on a beach was returned to its rightful owner.
In an interview after the ring was returned, Cook told Fox New reporters, “Karma’s always good. Every time I return an item, I find something better — so I’m happy I could give it back.”
People who saw the story were amazed at Cook’s actions. One TikTok user who saw the story posted, “Better then me. What’s lost is found and what’s found is owned.”
On Cook’s post to TikTok, many congratulated him on his honorable actions saying things like, “You are the best Joe,” “well done Joe,” and “You’re a great guy. We need more people like you.”
Joe’s own brother posted, “You are a good dude brother keep on keepin’ on. Love all your content.”
In response, Joe wrote, “It feels so awesome to be appreciated. I’ve been doing this so long and I never ask for a thing. All the smiles and love is more then enough for me.”
