Christina Grimmie was an anomaly. She was beautiful but didn’t use that to sell records, funny in a way that made you want to be best friends with her, and she could sing. She had a voice that made all four judges turn around in her first audition on “The Voice.” Grimmie had hundreds of millions of views on YouTube, toured with the world’s biggest artists, and always loved her fans.
Unfortunately, one of her fans abused her love. As Christina was signing autographs at a show in Orlando, FL, a member of the crowd walked up and shot her multiple times. She was taken to the hospital where she passed away from the wounds.
I don’t get it. 22-years-old. While most people know her from TV or YouTube, few got to know what made her the beautiful person she was.
Selena Gomez was one of those few people. Gomez paid tribute to the young singer in her “Revival” tour with a touching rendition of Hillsong Worship’s “Transfiguration.”
“When she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her,” she told the crowd. Selena’s stepdad, Brian Teefey, was Grimmie’s manager.
“One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her,” added Gomez. “And I think it’s not about a religion and it’s not about anything or good deeds. It’s just that she had faith.”
And that unwavering faith showed through in Grimmie’s own music as well. Below is a beautiful cover of “In Christ Alone,” which I can only imagine she’s singing for Jesus right now…
