Mary Glasure was getting prepared by the medical staff to get her first chemotheraphy treatment when she just about couldn’t handle one more doctor walking through the door.
But when this masked man in blue comes in her room at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, Mary got the SURPRISE of a lifetime! It was her Marine son Corey who she hadn’t seen in over 2 years!!
“It was kind of funny because I thought it was another doctor and I was about to wig out,” Glasure told TODAY.com. “I was like, ‘What do they want now?”’
Mary’s other son, Cody, caught the magical moment on camera on March 16th, and even two weeks later, the proud mama still gets chills watching the video. Mary had been constantly asking her son when he would be able to come home because she wanted to break the news of her breast cancer diagnosis to him in person. Little did she know, he already had a different plan up his sleeve.
“I needed my spirits boosted,” said Glasure. “It was once-in-a-lifetime thing for me. I never in a million years thought he would be coming back.”
“I just bawled like a baby,” added the 59-year-old mom. “I watch these videos with homecomings daily because the military is just my heart. I couldn’t get enough. I think I watched it 15 times going, ‘He’s home!”’
As the “you’ve-got-to-do-this type,” Mary says Corey is her strength, and he keeps her grounded in such difficult circumstances. She needed him now, more than ever, as the cancer has spread into her left lung and spine.
“It’s hard because with what I’m dealing with, you don’t know if you will see them again,” she confessed through tears. “Things could go wrong, or the treatment might not go right for you. I see why God gave me these kids at times like this because they’ve all stepped up to the plate and given me a reason to fight all this. I’ve got to fight, and I’m gonna win. There’s no debate on that issue.”
