They Snapped a Pic of Her Just Before She Died—& the Reason She’s Smiling Will Send Chills Up Your Spine

“Run toward the light.”

A common phrase describing someone’s last moment but no one’s ever been able to verify if there’s actually a light in the last moments, but this nun sure makes a case.

Sister Cecilia was battling cancer, and as she approached her final days the pain continued to worsen until she passed away June 22 at the age of 43.

Her final days were captured on camera and are going viral because even though she was in the middle of excruciating pain…she’s smiling.

Even the Pope reached out to make sure she knew he was praying too.

According to those close to her, the picture didn’t capture a moment but an entire personality that Sister Cecilia carried with her, a posture of peace and joy.

Cecilia graduated with a nursing degree, then decided to become a nun, professing the faith in 2003. Then in 2015 she got the news, diagnosed with cancer of the tongue that would soon spread into her lungs.

Every day in the hospital she kept her joyful appearance as she lay in her bed. She would even put on her habit and participate in Mass in the hospital chapel.

According to a local news site, “those who saw her spoke of her face as showing peace and joy—as someone awaiting the encounter with the One to whom she had given her life, Our Lord Jesus Christ.”

After losing her ability to speak, the nun wrote these words that, when translated, read “I am very content, astonished by the work of God through suffering, and by so many people who pray for me.”

Her love of Jesus and her love of life became even more evident with her last request: “I was thinking about how I would like my funeral to be. First, some intense prayer and then a great celebration for everyone. Don’t forget to pray but don’t forget to celebrate either!”

Such a beautiful story of hope in the midst of chaos and a beautiful reminder to pray, and to celebrate!
