Tasha Layton: From Katy Perry’s Backup Singer to Christian Music Ministry

Tasha Layton’s journey in the music industry is a testament to faith, purpose, and divine timing. Once a backup singer for pop icon Katy Perry, Layton has transitioned to a career dedicated to Christian ministry and music.

Lessons in Trust

In a recent interview with CBN, Layton reflects on her musical journey, emphasizing the importance of trusting God with every step. “Before I entered music to do my own music, there were a lot of years that I wasn’t sure how God was going to work it out,” she shared. Despite uncertainties, she trusted that God was weaving her experiences into a beautiful plan, a lesson she believes is applicable at every stage of life.

Choosing Faith Over Fame

Layton had the opportunity to pursue a career in secular music, but she chose a different path. “I was offered a deal on the secular side, and I felt so firmly that it wasn’t what I was called to do,” she explained. The secular music industry, with its inherent compromises, didn’t align with her desire to connect people to God through her music and actions.

Her decision to follow her calling has led to a fulfilling career in Christian music, a realization of prayers she began as a teenager. “I’m standing in the fulfillment of prayers I prayed as a teenager to be in full-time ministry to use my gifts for the Lord,” Layton said, expressing gratitude for her current path.

Challenges on the Road

Touring with Katy Perry presented unique challenges, particularly the struggle to stay connected with her faith community. “I was one of two Christians on a 75-person tour, so I missed that community of faith,” Layton revealed. Despite being solid in her identity as a worship pastor, the isolation from her spiritual support system was difficult.

She also noted the shallow aspects of the entertainment industry, such as the emphasis on appearance and social status, which she does not miss.

Fulfillment in Ministry

Now, as a Christian singer, Layton finds immense fulfillment in her work. She sees the fruits of her ministry daily and appreciates the profound impact her music has on people’s lives. “Walking the path I’m walking now with God is so special, and I get to see the fruit of what he’s doing every single day,” she shared.

Layton’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of trusting in God’s plan, even when the path is unclear. Her decision to prioritize her faith over fame has led to a deeply rewarding career, touching lives and connecting people to God through her music.
