In that moment, Amy felt the remotest sense of peace that lives would be saved through her son’s untimely death.
Before his funeral, Cameron had already saved four people through the donation of his pancreas, liver, kidneys and heart. His muscles, arteries, skin/bone tissue, and tendons were able to help dozens more.
“As far as I know, 54 people have part of my baby with them,” said Amy.
The grieving mother finds comfort in knowing her son died a hero.
“Cameron is an angel in Heaven and a hero on Earth,” she said of her boy’s selfless spirit.
One day, she would like to meet the people who Cameron saved, saying “I would love that, especially the person that has his heart.”
Amy hopes that Cameron’s story of being an organ donor will also inspire others to help the 115,000 people currently sitting on the national waiting list.
According to Donate Life, “95% of Americans are in favor of being a donor but only 54% are registered.” Help bridge that gap by registering to be an organ donor today.
