Texas Woman Arrested After Trying to Buy a Baby in a Walmart

How Was the Woman Trying to Buy a Baby?

Apparently, the Texas woman arrested had approached the mother, who had her 1-year-old son with her in the shopping cart, and her infant son, who was in a car seat carrier. The mother was scanning her items at a self-checkout station. Taylor complemented the mother on her infant “son’s blonde hair and blue eyes,” according to the mother.

The Messenger news outlet reported, the Crockett Police Department Lt. Ahleea Price obtained an affidavit from the mother with these details. The mother reported that at first she laughed uncomfortably about Taylor’s comment and thought the strange woman had been joking.

However, then Taylor explained that she had $250,000 in the car and offered to give the mother that amount in exchange for her infant. The infant’s mother told Taylor that she would not give up her son for any amount of money. Yet, continued, explaining that she had been wanting to buy a baby for a while. Taylor said to the mother that her infant was a “perfect fit.” When the mother refused again, Taylor would not drop the discussion and eventually said she would take the baby if the mother wouldn’t agree to sell him.

The mother responded by telling Taylor to stay away from her children, and then rushed into the parking lot to her car. That is when Taylor increased the offer to $500,000.

Surveillance footage from the Crockett Walmart showed the mother leaving the store, and Taylor screaming at her. The affidavit says, “Taylor began screaming, saying if she wouldn’t take $250,000 for him, then she would give her $500,000 because she wanted him and she was going to take him.”

One Twitter user that shared the story commented in jest, “They sell everything at Walmart these days.”

Fortunately, officials took this incident seriously, whether Taylor was serious or just making a terrible, terrible joke. After the incident was reported, a warrant was issued for Taylor, and the police arrested her five days later.

A third-degree felony in the state of Texas, the Texas woman arrested was charged on Tuesday, January 25th by police with the sale or purchase of a child and booked in the Houston County Jail. However, Taylor posted $50,000 bond and was released. According to the DA’s office, Taylor is planning to use a private attorney and had denied the court-appointed attorney. If she is convicted, Taylor could face up to 10 years in prison, as well as $10,000 in fines. As of today, a date hasn’t been set for a grand jury to see Taylor’s case.
