Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson are the first celebrities to publicly announce they’ve tested positive for COVID-19. Hanks and Wilson, both 63 years old, broke the news on Instagram Wednesday. The couple was in Australia shooting Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley film at the time.
Hanks shared that their symptoms were tiredness, body aches, fever, and chills—indicative of what they thought was a cold.
“To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” wrote the actor.
Hanks, who earlier explained that he has Diabetes 2, is at higher risk of complications associated with the virus. The couple is also over 60, putting them in an at-risk age group.
Maintaining a straightforward tone rather than one of panic, the 63-year-old explained they would take necessary precautions and take things “one day at a time.”
“Well, now. What to do next?” he continued. “The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”
Hanks concluded in sharing they “would keep the world posted and updated” and encouraged people to “Take care of yourselves!”
Join us in praying for the Hanks as they endure this challenging time, as well as anyone else who is fighting off COVID-19.
Amidst the fear and trials associated with the spread of this virus, we can have peace, as promised in John 16:33:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”—John 16:33
