Are You Guilty of Using any of These 10 Christian Cliches?

4. “Hedge of Protection”

OK, we know this phrase comes from Job 1, and it’s very King James-y of you to use it, but this catchphrase sounds more cliche than meaningful. Just say what you mean… you want God to protect them.

5. “When God Closes a Door… He Opens a Window”

What does that even mean? Oh, and sometimes, well, He just shuts the door. Boom. Done deal.

God doesn’t want to make His will for our journeys difficult. If He opens a door, walk through it. If He closes a door, stop and listen. The window alternative makes it sound like you’re making a way where God hasn’t.

6. “My Walk with God.”

Yes, we need to spend time reading the Word and praying, but this phrase makes it sound like you have a body double and he/she is out there somewhere walking with God (probably on the beach with one set of footprints) and not present and the very core of every part of your life.

Each of us is on a journey, yes, but let’s communicate clearly that this journey is where God is present.
