Friend Says “Of All People, You Should Get Why Someone Would Abort a Cleft Baby”—Dad’s Reply Is Perfect

"My ‘friend’ said, ‘Come on, of all people, you should get why someone would want to abort a cleft baby.’ That shocked me. Why would he think that?"

Why Your Marriage Needs a Church Family

I’ve had a lot of tough questions from a lot of women. They range from minor problems to full on devastating circumstances. I am more than happy to have the opportunity to encourage and pray. But I am only on the other side of a computer screen, and that kind of support only goes so far.

While my prayers are fervent, I know women need practical help.

If you are really struggling, I think you should make sure you are in a community of believers. Going to church on Sunday is a good start.

My most precious moments of connection with other women, however, have taken place while being a part of a small group. You aren’t meant to walk this road all by yourself. How terrible to struggle in isolation. I don’t want that for you.

I am not telling you to go find a church so all of the amazing Christians can fix you. This isn’t some Humpty Dumpty quest. Because let me tell you, Christians struggle and fall and mess up just as much as anyone. And how wonderful it is, when you share your story, your heart, and you find out someone else has walked the same miserable path as you have. How do you know that your experience won’t bless others?

I am not great about keeping a mask on. I tend to keep it real. So real, in fact, some people can’t quite handle it.

When people ask me how I am doing, I tend to tell them. I just don’t see the point in pretending we have it all together. If my friends think I have it all together, they are less likely to come to me when they are going through a dark place. I love seeing open, honest, friendships within the church body. Now of course, it’s up to you how many people you want to share your life with, but share it with someone. Ask for prayer, reach out, listen in return.

If you don’t know where to find a local church in your area, check out the Acts 29 Network. If you still need help, send me a message with your city, and I will try to help. My husband works with many ministries around the country, and I know he could recommend a church.

I hope you find a place you can call home. It can make all the difference when you are in need!
