Will Smith: “What Skydiving Taught Me About God”

With more people on Facebook today than there were on the entire planet 200 years ago, it’s no secret that humanity’s greatest desire is to connect. And with the constant evolution of social media connectedness, people around the globe have never been closer! For many Hollywood hotshots, social media has provided a way for fans to follow and feel close to their favorite celebrities.

Still, one of the most famous actors on the planet just only fell into the social sharing game four months ago. But that hasn’t kept Will Smith from racking up more than 15 million followers. He’s connecting with fans from all over the globe, and better yet, Will Smith is taking things one step further: connecting his fans with their Creator.

In his most recent post, Smith shared an important message about God that he learned after going skydiving.

“God Placed the Best Things in Life on the Other Side of FEAR!” Smith writes.

“Skydiving is a really interesting confront with fear,” he says in the video, which clips together pieces of an interview he did back in December 2016 with footage of his skydiving experience in 2014. Through humor and excitement, Smith recalls the thrilling and oh-so-terrifying process of going skydiving.

“So you get onto the airplane and you’re sitting there, you fly and you go up to 14,000 feet and the guy walks up [to the edge] and you’re looking down to death! Terror, terror, terror!!”

Will Smith

“You fall out of the airplane and in one second you realize that it’s the most blissful experience of your life. You realize at the point of maximum danger, is the point of minimum fear.”

Will Smith

“God placed the best things in life on the other side of fear.”

How often do we let our fear get in the way of what God is doing? How often do we see God moving, we experience His presence, but we push Him away out of fear of the unknown.

Smith’s words are a challenge, but also an encouragement, to be BOLD in our pursuit of God, and obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Will Smith has always been open about his faith, telling the Christian Post that his grandmother was the one who instilled faith in him from a young age.

“She was my spiritual teacher, she was that grandmother at the church, the one having the kids doing the Easter presentations and putting on the Christmas plays and her kids and grandkids had to be first,” he explains. “She was the most spiritually certain person that I had ever met in my entire life. Even to the point that when she was dying she was happy, like she was really excited about going to heaven.”
