If you haven’t tuned in to an episode of “This Is Us” yet this season, your tear ducts will surely thank you.

Threading together the unique life paths of three triplets and their fearlessly loving parents, there’s not a script on television that can tug on the heartstrings quite like this theatrical masterpiece.

After earning two nominations and wins this year at the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, it seems America emphatically agrees.

The “Super Bowl Sunday” episode that aired just after Super Bowl 52 left viewers distraught over the dramatic reveal of Jack’s untimely death. Monday came HARD for “This Is Us” superfans.

But thankfully, the real-life Pearson family patriarch (played by Milo Ventimiglia) knew we all needed a pick-me-up following the scene that left half the nation an emotional trainwreck.

On February 5th, The Paley Center for Media posted a heartwarming snippet from Paley Fest LA 2017 where Milo explained the inspiration behind his character in a Q&A session.

“Here we go, you’re gonna find me crying—my father,” shared Milo, as the waterworks immediately welled up in his eyes.

After pointing out his dad in the audience, the actor elaborated on the inspiration that is the TV legend of Jack Pearson, as his father choked back tears of his own.

“Dan Fogelman and—you know by way of John and Glenn and like all the producers and writers—wrote this man who loves his wife and loves his kids. Really as simple as that,” said Milo. “And I saw that with my own father, and there’s not a moment in my life that I don’t think about how he raised us, my sisters and I, and what he gave me just as a man. So my dad.”

The endearing father-son moment is an honest reflection of the caring, selfless man we see portrayed on NBC every Tuesday night. It certainly makes this emotionally-charged TV drama that much sweeter.
