It’s no secret that Adam Levine is a crowd favorite in his role as singing coach and judge on NBC’s The Voice.
Tuesday Night’s live results show of the talent competition was particularly special to the Maroon 5 front-man, as he and his team paid tribute to former contestant and his close friend, Christina Grimmie.
The 22-year-old was tragically shot and killed last June in Miami, Florida.

Christina had been a member of Adam’s team during the show’s sixth season, and the two shared a special bond that Adam says he will never forget.
Before his performance on Tuesday night, Adam looked to Christina’s family in the audience.

“God, I loved her so much,” he said. “I am talking to you guys specifically, I’m talking to everybody. I miss her. It’s unfair that she’s not here. We’re going to sing a little song tonight, and I’m going to be singing every word to her, in her honor. Thank you for being here. Christina, we love you.”
Along with Jesse, Lily and Mark—the three contestants left on his team this season—Adam took to the stage for a tribute performance of the Beatles Classic “Hey Jude.”
Following the performance, host Carson Daly announced that Christina’s family has released an EP of her music on iTunes, and that a full album will drop on June 2.
All proceeds will go directly to the Christina Grimmie foundation, which supports those who have been affected by gun violence or breast cancer—the singer’s mother has been battling the disease for several years.
