Players From Opposing Team Join in Prayer After NBA Star Suffers Brutal Injury

It’s that time of year again. Fall and winter sports have launched into full swing, and fans across America are gearing up for hopeful triumphs by their home-team.

Things were looking promising for the Boston Celtics Tuesday night until forward Gordon Hayward landed wrong on his left foot.

In an attempt to catch an alley-oop pass and follow it up with a dunk, Hayward came crashing to the floor with an immediately obvious severe injury. His left foot was pointing completely sideways as he lay on the court writhing in pain.

The scene was unsettling for most players and fans, who were shocked by the gruesome appearance of Hayward’s sudden injury.

The Christian basketballer has been outspoken about his faith in the past, and continues to be so throughout his career.

In a 2015 interview with Alabama Baptist, Hayward says he plays “for the Glory of God”—something that’s been ingrained in him since long before he first picked up a basketball.

Before every game, #20 receives an encouraging text message from his mom that simply says, “Remember Who you play for.”

Hayward says the encouragement continuously helps him keep things in perspective.

“I am playing for the glory of God. It makes life easier. It takes a lot of pressure off of you. My inspiration first and foremost always has to be God. I play every game for Him and after that my inspiration is my family.”

It seems Hayward has no doubt about his true mission on the court, and his contagious faith was made clear on Tuesday night.

After dropping to the floor in excruciating pain, players from both the Celtics and the Cavaliers could be seen kneeling in prayer.

And the support didn’t stop there. Players from around the league flooded Twitter with their prayers and encouragement for their fellow “brother.”

Praying for God’s healing as Hayward looks towards recovery.
