Proverbs 22:6 promises that if you “train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
But for some reason, that biblical assurance seems shaky when we hear stories of the prodigal sons who don’t return and pastor’s kids in all-out rebellion.
I mean, if THEY can’t keep their kids in the path of righteousness, what kind of hope is there for the rest of us?!
Further, with daily warnings about the next social media craze, dangerous app, or deadly disease that could plague our kids, worry often clouds our view of the beautiful little humans we are raising under our own roofs.
Regardless of the blood, sweat, tears, and prayers poured into doing your very best to raise your children, rare are the moments that parents get to revel in a job well done.
But actress Candace Cameron Bure got to do just that last week. While in celebration of her son Lev’s 18th birthday, her thoughtful teenager turned the tables on typical birthday tradition by presenting his mom with a priceless gift she’ll never forget.
It was a sweet letter reminding Bure that her self-sacrifice and unconditional love have modeled a Christ-like character for her now-adult son that molded him into the man he has become.

“Mom! I first just need to say, thank you. You have literally put your life down for me. You, helped, encouraged, cared for, loved, worked, and really done everything for me. I would be nowhere near close to where I am today if it wasn’t for you. Papa has helped me with athletics, but the man I have become, I owe to you. My love, patience, and heart came from you.
I owe it all to you. Thank you! This day is about you! Not me! I literally would not be here if it wasn’t for you… literally. We should be celebrating you and papa!

Needless to say, the 41-year-old ‘Fuller House’ star was overwhelmed with emotion at the unexpected note of gratitude, and a stream of happy tears instantly followed.
“This boy… I mean… @levvbure.” she wrote on Instagram. “I was buried in that shoulder for a few minutes. At least. 😢”
And, honestly who can really blame her? What a remarkable way watch the labor of love that is motherhood bear fruit. Wishing this fine young man she raised the happiest of birthdays!
