Carrie Underwood Takes Home Billboard Music Award for Top Christian Album

When it comes to racking up music awards, Carrie Underwood is no stranger to acceptance speeches. In her 16-year career, the Country music star has won over 150 music awards, many of which have named her Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year.

At the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, Carrie paved herself a new lane in the Christian music categories, and took home the Billboard Music Award for Top Christian Album for her Christmas project, My Gift.

Carrie’s first-ever Christmas album beat out some of the biggest names in Christian music including: Elevation Worship, We The Kingdom, Bethel Music, and Zach Williams.

“I am very blessed and very lucky because I have basically been living in Christmasland all of 2020, which was a great place to be for this year,” Carrie said in December. “I’ve been making music that I love and been just giving my heart to the Lord with My Gift, which you guys have been so wonderful to support. Lots of love and support and I have felt it every step of the way, so thank you so much for that.”

My Gift inspired Carrie to dig deep and take things back to her Christian roots. On Christmas Day she announced her first-ever Gospel album, My Savior, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Country and Christian charts, as well as No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart after its March 2021 release.

My Savior was Carrie’s ninth consecutive studio album to debut  at No. 1 on the Billboard Country chart. She’s the only country artist to ever achieve that record.

Carrie, who says she’s been “lucky enough” to record songs with Christian themes throughout her career with hits like “Jesus Take the Wheel,” and “Something in the Water,” told PEOPLE that My Savior was a “bucket list” project for her.

But things aren’t slowing down for this Country-Christian superstar anytime soon. Earlier this month, Carrie announced plans for her new Las Vegas residency, “REFLECTION,” which is set to open Dec. 1 of this year at the Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas. The shows sold out so fast, that they added six more shows for 2022.

And just last week Carrie teamed up with popular crossover band NEEDTOBREATH, to release the group’s latest single, I Wanna Remember. NTB frontman Bear Rhinehart was featured on Carrie’s Gospel album, My Savior. Now the two have paired up again for this sweet love song.
