“I Thought It Was a Glitch”: Chrissy Teigen’s Response to Student’s Plea for Help Goes Viral

Chrissy Teigen is absolutely savage. When it comes to social media, the supermodel and mother of two is pretty much all of us in real life.

Mrs. John Legend is notorious for keeping it real and being true to herself in a virtual world that’s plagued with “reputation management.” She posts pictures of her stretch marks, shares embarrassing moments on the daily, and sets out to prove that she really is just like the rest of us.

Just when we thought she couldn’t be any more supportive or relatable than she already is, Chrissy Teigen goes and does something to drastically change someone’s life. And the Internet is completely LOVING it.

Mercedes Edney is an esthetician student in Charlotte, North Carolina. She regularly shares beauty tips and educates her followers of her own skincare products, Ixora Botanical Beauty, on her social media accounts.

In March, Mercedes launched a crowdfunding campaign for her school tuition because financial aid is unavailable. She needed just shy of $6,000 for the semester, which starts in May. She pulled together enough donations to cover the $895 needed to hold her seat in the program, but still had a long way to go.

That is, until she received a notification on Friday night alerting her of a $5,605 donation made by none other than Chrissy Teigen.

“I thought it was a glitch,” Edney wrote on her Instagram account. “I then looked at my email and realized it came from my fundraiser. @chrissyteigen donated my entire tuition money for school.”

It’s still unclear how the supermodel found Mercedes, but there’s no doubt that she recognized the 33-year-old’s passion, as confirmed by a short note Chrissy included with her donation:

“I’ve seen this be your passion for such a long time now. So excited to see you fulfill your dream!”

Overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude, Mercedes tweeted at Chrissy Teigen, only to receive yet another response:

Mercedes says the gesture was completely unexpected, and “a blessing that [she] could have never seen coming.” She plans to let it help her in her next steps and never take for granted the kindness that was shown to her.
