Denzel Washington Talks About Spiritual Warfare and Warns Against Signs of End Times

With the popularity of “The Tragedy of Macbeth” on Apple TV increasing, an interview of the motion picture’s star, Denzel Washington, has gone viral. And this self-professed “God-fearing man” and two-time Academy Award-winning actor isn’t shy about sharing his thoughts about spiritual warfare and signs of the end times.

Denzel Washington Warns Against Spiritual Warfare

It’s long been known that Denzel Washington is a Christian. The 64-year-old actor became a Christian when he was young, but it took a while for him to lean into and start living what he believed.

Discussing the process of his transformation, he describes it as a process. “I think we all go through that. I was filled with the Holy Ghost and it scared me.”

He explains that the distractions and pleasures of this world had a hold on him and he didn’t want to give that up. Explaining the spiritual warfare during this process, he said, “I didn’t want to go this deep…I want to party.”

Denzel Washington shared, “It was a supernatural, once in this lifetime experience that I couldn’t completely understand at the time.”

But today, and most recently in his interview with the New York Times, he explained his faith walk today as solid. “I’m a God-fearing man,” he said.

And Denzel Washington is serious about his faith infiltrating his life and all he does.

“What I do, what I make, what I made — all of that — is that going to help me on the last day of my life?”

He asks himself about his work in the entertainment industry, going on to explain how he wants his work to make an impact on others. “It’s about, who have you lifted up? Who have we made better?”

Apparently, it’s not only about what an audience sees. It’s also about the people he interacts with on- and offset.

One of the actors in “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” Corey Hawkins, talked to the New York Times about his experience with Washington. “Sometimes we get talking and you see the preacher in him,” Corey Hawkins, who plays Macduff in the movie shared, explaining that Denzel Washington sometimes prays with him. “He’s just a natural-born charismatic leader who is not afraid to talk about his own faults or misgivings or shortcomings.”

The story of Macbeth itself is about a Scottish lord who becomes obsessed with power and elevating himself. And this story line isn’t far off from what Washington says about spiritual warfare and how self-obsession and social media are a sign of the end times.

The actor told the New York Times, “The enemy is the inner me,” referring to how when “me” becomes the most important thing, it’s a dangerous thing.

Or as Proverbs 16:28 puts it, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

For years, Denzel Washington has spoken out against the dangers of social media and how this phenomenon cultivates me-obsessed individuals.

He spoke about his concerns with social media on this video interview by CBN News.

Washington tells CBN, “We all want to be liked. But now we want to be liked by sixteen million.”

And social media is a major driver in this self-focus that the masses are developing. Denzel Washington explains what he thinks this has to do with end times…
