Since that final show and Gabler’s big announcement that he was going to donate the entire $1 million prize, CBS did a more in-depth interview of him.
He told interviewers that in addition to his family, he has good friends that have been in the military, as well. And he explained that even though he hasn’t been in the military, “To have the honor to serve them is pretty profound for me,” discussing the reason for giving Veterans the entire $1 million he won.

In response, Gabler has received a lot of accolades. On YouTube, one person commented, “Very inspirational; he is one in a million. Not to many people can do what this guy did. God Bless Him and His Family.”
One Survivor season 43 viewer had hoped he would win, pointing out the irony of his win. She said, “He was my pick from the get go! I love what Karla said, he’s an honest person in a game of lies…”
Another viewer admitted that he had hoped someone else would win, but was glad that Gabler did, saying “Not the winner we wanted, but the winner we needed.”
