For first responder Mark Hadden, there is no such thing as a normal day on the job. From saving families from burning houses to rushing to the aid of crash victims, this fireman is certainly used to adapting to the unusual.
However, he never expected that one particular emergency call would result in him bringing the miracle of life into the world.
It was a cool, crisp November evening when Mark got the call that would change his life forever.
“It was just a normal, somewhat normal call, ” he recalled. “Very quickly we learned that it was going to be a life changer for us.”
A woman was in labor, and she needed their help—fast.
Mark and the other emergency responders had no time to get her to the hospital, so before he knew it, he was delivering a beautiful baby girl.
Her name was Grace.
Giddy with excitement and still in shock, Mark immediately phoned his wife to relay the unbelievable news.
“When he called me he was ecstatic,” said Beth in wide-eyed surprise. “I mean he delivered a baby. Who in the world gets to deliver a baby in their lifetime that’s not a doctor?”
She could hardly believe her ears!
But that wasn’t the only news her hero baby-delivering hubby had in store…
As soon as Grace was delivered, she was put up for adoption—an unexpected blessing for the Haddens, who had always wanted to add to their family of four, but could no longer have children.
“We had had it on our minds and in our hearts for years to adopt, and we just left it in God’s hands,” said Beth. “We just said if it’s meant to be, it’s gonna be.”
And it seems, it was.
The baby her husband delivered for a stranger was soon to be her own. Just 48 hours later, that gorgeous bundle of pink was officially theirs to keep.
As for their sons, Will and Parker, they couldn’t be happier to have a baby sister to love and protect as their own. She may not be blood, but that makes no difference to them.
“I just love her to pieces,” said one of the proud big brothers.
Mark never envisioned having a daughter, but he couldn’t be more thankful for the Amazing Grace that God sent to him on that life-changing November day.
“We are truly blessed,” he tells WMBF News.
