“God Put Me in My Place”: Jamie Lynn Spears Makes Raw Confession After Daughter’s Tragic Accident

After her 8-year-old daughter, Maddie, was involved in an ATV accident last month, Jamie Lynn Spears admits that “God’s timing is no coincidence.”

The singer and actress took to Instagram this week on her birthday to share a page from her devotional. With it, she wrote a message to fans about what God has taught her through the scary process of the unknown—particularly, the lessons that came from Maddie’s horrific accident.

Her morning devotional for April 4 was titled “Your Times Are In My Hands.”

It’s a reminder that God’s timing is absolute perfection. Although in our humanness, we may long for urgency and a fast-forward button, God is the master of all things time. Anything we could ever need, desire or pray for will come in His perfect timing, and the blessings are more than we could imagine.

With a photo of the passage she wrote:

“I turned 26 years old today. I’m not one to preach, and I’m no priest, but God’s timing is no coincidence,” she wrote. “Music, and my career have always been a big passion in my life as well as to create a future that my family could be proud of.”

She continues:

“I have been working on my music for almost a decade now, and I have had many great successes as an artist/writer, but I was always wondering, how long I would have to WAIT for my big break?”

The devotional passage talks about how followers of Jesus Christ have to “submit to the reality of time.” It gives examples of a bride who wishes the wedding would come sooner, and a person who is suffering, hoping for instant relief.

It hit Jamie Lynn hard, and she felt convicted by her own impatience in both work and family.

“Wow, did God put me in my place.”

It’s something we can all relate to, especially considering the microwave society we live in. For Jamie Lynn, this was fresh off of a time when all she wanted was to help her baby girl as quickly as possible.

Wouldn’t you know, it seems as though she read it perfectly when God knew she would hear it.

“Time doesn’t matter, and seems to blur together when you’re waiting for your daughter to wake up, and a day could be a week, and you wouldn’t notice, because you’re fighting for what you love.”

God uses even our worst circumstances to grow our faith, and show us strength we never knew we had. Jamie Lynn says what she and her family went through with Maddie put things into perspective for her. She has this experience as a parallel to her music, and the confidence of knowing that “God’s timing is no coincidence.”

“Now, more than ever, I realize how important it is to only put your time into things that matter… Now that my baby girl is better—I can’t wait to make her proud. She is my everything. I want to thank you all for your patience and prayers as we worked through this hard time.”

God speaks to us in so many ways, but one of the greatest is through the Word. It was written for us, and to us.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jamie Lynn can attest that never has the Word of God been more comforting.
