Look on any woman’s Pinterest board, and you’re sure to find the quote “It is well with my soul,” which originates from the worship song “It is Well.”
The song was originally written by Horatio G. Spafford in 1873—a man whose testimony rings similar to that of Job in the Bible—someone who lost everything, and still praised God for his faithfulness.
It’s an inspiring boldness that America is now experiencing through a young and talented singer named Mandy Harvey.
Mandy Harvey
The 29-year-old performed an original song called “Try” for her audition on America’s Got Talent last week, and the nation fell in love.
Her voice caught everyone’s attention, but her story captured their hearts.
At just 18 years old, a connective-tissue disorder caused Mandy to lose all of her hearing. Having been singing since she was just four years old, everything she knew was gone.
But determined to do more with her life, Mandy learned through muscle memory, and performing barefoot to feel the tempo beneath her, to sing her song once again.
Now, 11 years after losing her hearing, a YouTube video of her leading worship to “It is Well” will literally take your breath away—a song written by a man who lost everything, and now sung by a woman who can share in the testimony that “through it all, it is well.”
Words can’t describe how powerful her performance is, knowing that she is living proof of God’s goodness and faithfulness even when we have nothing.
