Viral Moment: Hospice Worker Reunites with Former Mentor for Touching Bedside Serenade

In Austinburg, Ohio, at the Austinburg Nursing & Rehab Center, a video capturing a deeply moving moment has gone viral, striking a chord with over half a million viewers. The footage shows hospice worker Joshua Woodard singing a heartfelt rendition of “How Great Thou Art” to his former mentor, Mary Redmond, just days before her peaceful passing.

Mary Redmond: A Life Dedicated to Music and Mentorship

Decades ago, Mary Redmond was not only a cherished voice and piano teacher in her community but also a vibrant member of the local arts scene, starring in productions such as “Hello, Dolly!” and “The Music Man.” She taught out of her home and at arts centers across Madison and Ashtabula, touching many lives with her passion for music.

Reunited under these poignant circumstances, Woodard knew he had a unique opportunity to give back to the woman who had so profoundly impacted his life. After consulting with Mary’s family, he performed a series of Christian hymns by her bedside, a gesture that Mary’s son, Chuck, believes she truly appreciated. “She was coherent enough to hear him sing three or four solos to her, and I really think she enjoyed that,” he shared.

The video of this tender serenade, recorded by Mary’s daughter-in-law, Marti, quickly spread across the internet, making its way onto at least 15 different websites and generating tens of thousands of comments on social media. This global recognition was unexpected but welcome, as Chuck noted with a laugh, “It was pleasant to see, but we never thought it would be that big.”

Mary’s profound legacy as a music teacher and her love for music resonated far beyond the classroom, affecting many, including those in her final days. “Her love of music—it touched more people than you could ever imagine,” Chuck reflected.

Rachel Scott Drawing: 13 Tears, 13 Lives and One Girl Who Witnessed to the Bullies Who Killed Her

0

The Rachel Scott drawing before has inspired millions of people across the world.

The film, which features Duck Dynasty stars Sadie, Kori and Bella Robertson, tells the story of Rachel Scott. Scott was a 17-year-old student who was tragically killed by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold in the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Colorado.

13 people were killed in the massacre that day.

Growing up in Colorado myself, I’ve known about the devastation and memory of the shooting since I was five years old. I’ve competed in sporting events at Columbine High School, and I’ve even had teachers who were at the school on April 20, 1999 — the day of the shooting.

I first learned about Rachel Scott when I was a sophomore in high school. Her story and her legacy is so incredible that I’ve kept it with me for years since first hearing it. And the fact that Pure Flix captured it all in a feature film makes it all the more powerful.

Rachel was bullied throughout her high school years.

She was a devoted Christian teenager, open about her faith at school and unashamed to witness to others. But doing so took a toll on her reputation. She was made an outcast, betrayed and like any high schooler, she had her struggles. But through it all, she loved God greatly. Her diaries hold the words of her daily testimonies.

“I have no more personal friends at school, But you know what? I am not going to apologize for speaking the name of Jesus. I am not going to justify my faith to them, and I am not going to hide the light that God has put into me. If I have to sacrifice everything I will. I will take it. If my friends have to become my enemies for me to be with my best friend Jesus, then that’s fine with me.”

Three weeks before the shooting, Rachel witnessed to the shooters, Eric and Dylan. They too were bullied, outcasts and they really didn’t have any friends, but Rachel knew that all they needed was Jesus. Unfortunately, they were blinded by hate, and they even made videotapes mocking her Christian faith.

“I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go.”

On the day of the shooting, Rachel was the first person shot on the school’s campus. Dylan and Eric shot her twice in the leg and once in the back. The boys walked away but returned seconds later after seeing she was still alive. Dylan grabbed her by the hair and asked, “Do you still believe in your God?

When her unflinching and unwavering response was,“You Know I Do.” Eric told her, “Then go be with him,” and he shot her in the head.

The tragedy of Rachel’s story is only a matter of details. The rest is truly a matter of God.

After police cleared the school and investigated the event, Rachel’s backpack was returned to her family, complete with her diary. What they found inside was the foundation that continued the chain reaction Rachel lived for.

Two hours before the shooting, on April 20, 1999, Rachel drew a picture in her diary.

It was of her eyes shedding 13 tears that trickled down to a rose and turned to blood drops. Thirteen people were killed on campus that day. The rose was connected to a Columbine plant, with a Bible verse underneath it that says, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man would lay his life down for his friends.”

That drawing inspired her parents to write a book called Rachel’s Tears.

After her death, many students that Rachel had reached out to shared stories with the Scotts about the profound impact her simple acts of kindness had on their lives; even preventing one young man for taking his own life. They soon realized the transformational effect of Rachel’s story and started the nonprofit organization that is Rachel’s Challenge today.

Every day, 160,000 students skip school for fear of being bullied. Rachel’s Challenge exists to inspire and equip every person to create a permanent positive change not only in themselves but in their schools, their businesses and communities.

In the 25 years since the Columbine shooting, Rachel’s Challenge and the story of Rachel Scott has touched more than 22 million people.

Though Rachel’s Challenge is not involved or associated with the film in any way, Pure Flix has taken the incredible story of how one person’s compassion can start a chain reaction, and put it on an even greater platform.

Rachel’s life is a powerful testimony to the wonderful ways that God uses those who love Him. Her life was only 17 years long, but God has taken her legacy and touched millions. “I want you to use me to reach the unreached,” Rachel wrote to God in her diary.

I’d say He’s done just that.

Middle School Teacher Kept an Empty Chair in the Classroom for 53 Years to Teach Kids This One Important Lesson

0

At the tender age of 9 years old, Dan Gill learned a lesson he will never forget. This middle school teacher spent more than 50 years in the classroom, using an empty chair to teach his students the same lesson.

The chair is not one used for punishment or separation. Gill doesn’t use it to humiliate anyone or enforce strict policies, or even observe the class. Instead, he’s hoped the chair would serve as a reminder.

“Each year I teach lessons around Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday about the Civil Rights movement,” the teacher from Montclair, New Jersey told TODAY. “I wanted to connect the students in a personal way to what that meant.”

When Dan Gill was nine years old, he and his best friend Archie went to a birthday party in Gill’s New York City apartment building. Gill was white, while Archie was black.

When the boys arrived, the mother of the child having the birthday party looked at Archie and told him there were no more chairs. Confused by her message, Gill offered to sit on the floor or get more chairs. The woman reiterated, “You can come in, but Archie can’t because there are no more chairs.”

“At that moment, I understood what the codewords meant,” Gill told Kelly Clarkson. Archie was not welcome at the party because he was black. Gill said the boys both left the party, crying.

“We went back to my house, where obviously, we have enough chairs,” Gill recounts.

More than 60 years and an entire teaching career later, Gill is still reminded of that moment today. Archie was not given the opportunity to join the party because of one woman’s racial bias.

“We need to be a class of opportunity,” Gill told TODAY. “Archie was denied the opportunity to go to the birthday party because of a bias the woman had.”

Gill says the chair has served as a reminder to his students—and himself—of the need for empathy, and to advocate for those who need to be advocated for.

“I put a chair in my classroom so that anybody who comes to my classroom filled with anticipation, like a party, would feel welcome,” he said.

The Legacy of a Lifetime

At the end of the 2022-2023 school year, Dan Gill retired after teaching 53 years in the Montclair School System. He was crucial in integrating the district at its foundation, and his legacy in the classroom lives on through each of the lives he’s touched along the way.

And while he may be 77 years old now, Gill has new plans for the future ahead.

Since his retirement, Gill received an “excellent offer” from a top publisher for his children’s book, “No More Chairs,” dedicated to Archie, who died in 2021.

Gill says the boys lost touch decades ago, but he’s been able to connect with some of Archie’s family on social media.

He hopes the book will inspire others to talk about respect and acceptance, by having a tangible way of teaching those things.

“In my wildest dreams, I hope it imparts to kids how they can be better and how they can treat people better. I hope they will be decision-makers in their own class.”

“This life really is not going to amount to a hill of beans”: Great Grandma Goes Viral Discussing Death and Life In Heaven

A Texas woman, referred to as Nanny, has gone viral since her great grandson created a TikTok account for her. And for good reason. The great grandma goes viral as she shares her refreshing take on death in these surprisingly heartwarming videos.

Great Grandma Goes Viral With Her Thoughts on Life and Death

Nannyfayeandme is her handle, and this social media influencer is probably at least 80 years older than most of the trending budding influencers out there.

She’s Nanny Faye from Texas and she was born in 1925. The great grandma with more than 215,000 followers and 1.7 million likes rose to stardom not over her own accord, but because her great grandson made a TikTok channel with the intention of sharing her sweet, insightful, and heartwarming thoughts and stories.

And this youngster, as Nanny might call him, certainly had an idea that took off, perhaps because this influencer has years of wisdom to impart.

In fact, in a recent nannyfayeandme video, the great grandma goes viral when TikTok user posted a message saying “I’m scare of dying and can’t help it. Can you ask her if she is and how to help with that? She’s sweet!” and the grandson recorded Nanny responding to the question.

Watch the TikTok video here:

@nannyfayeandme Replying to @malindajrobertson ♬ original sound – Nanny Faye

Nanny’s immediate response is almost like astonishment, as she says, “Noooo! Why should I be scared? Honey, what’s there to be scared of.”

Continuing on about why she has no reason to be scared, the great grandma goes viral saying, “This [life] is just a little interim time. It’s a blip. It really is not going to amount to a hill of beans.”

Great Grandma Nanny is speaking of how a human life is only a tiny piece of all eternity. “Less than 100 years up to eternity doesn’t even cut it,” the great grandma goes viral saying.

And as Nanny explains, when our souls live for all of eternity, the span of a human life is relatively insignificant.

RELATED: “She Called Me the Grandson She Never Had”: 31-Year-Old & 89-Year-Old Become Roommates and Best Friends

From where does Nanny base this view? The Bible. She tells her grandson, “Your faith is to be put in what that Bible says. That Bible presents to you the most marvelous…place to live and to dwell and to be happy and to be perfect.”

Having lived nearly 100 years, Nanny knows what it’s like to struggle and what it’s like to want a good life, but she has a realistic view of life, knowing that in life there will be trouble, as Jesus says.

“When we want perfection here, we’ll never, never, never get it,” Nanny says.

But Nanny looks toward heaven as a place where there will be perfection, and we’ll have all our hopes and needs fulfilled.

She says to her audience, “There is going to be perfection. Everything’s going to be lovely. No sickness, no sorrow, no…people out of work, no trouble in any direction.”

This great grandma goes viral helping fearful viewers understand that “There’s not going to be any of that stuff that worries the tar out of us here.”

And her viewers respond. One TikTok user said in agreement, “I’m a cancer survivor. It told people it’s a win-win either I get healed or I get to see Jesus!”

Another user said, “I believe this too but hearing her tell it…brings so much peace about my daughter who passed at 21, 8 years ago.”

And this isn’t the only video that Nanny has move people with.

8 Reasons Why Nickelback Became Everyone’s Favorite Band to Hate

0

Nickelback, the Canadian rock band formed in 1995, has sold over 50 million albums worldwide, indicating a massive fan base. Yet, they’re often criticized and joked about more than many other bands in the rock genre. Why do people hate Nickelback? Let’s explore some light-hearted theories and reasons behind the Nickelback paradox.

Why do People Hate Nickleback?

1. The Power of Popularity

Nickelback’s monumental success, particularly with their hit single “How You Remind Me,” made them household names. Ironically, in the world of music, immense popularity can often lead to a backlash. It’s as if there’s a secret rule in the music world: the more popular you become, the more critics you amass. It’s the price of fame, and Nickelback has paid their dues.

2. The Bandwagon Effect

Nobody likes to admit it, but hating Nickelback became a popular trend at some point. Once a few vocal critics express their disdain, the bandwagon effect takes over, and it becomes “cool” to dislike the band. It’s a social phenomenon where individuals adopt certain behaviors or attitudes to fit in, and unfortunately for Nickelback, they’ve been on the receiving end of this effect.

3. Musical Monotony?

Critics often argue that Nickelback’s songs sound too similar to each other, accusing them of following a formulaic approach to songwriting. In the realm of rock music, where innovation and authenticity are highly prized, such accusations can be damaging. Of course, one could argue that consistency is not necessarily a bad thing, but in the diverse tapestry of rock music, it’s easy to see why this might irk some listeners.

4. Lyrics and Themes

Nickelback’s lyrics often revolve around themes of love, heartbreak, and personal turmoil, with a sprinkle of partying and hedonism. Some critics find these themes to be cliché or lacking depth. However, isn’t the point of rock music to evoke emotion and relate to the listener’s personal experiences? Perhaps Nickelback just chooses to keep it real, even if it means being predictable.

5. The Chad Kroeger Effect

Lead vocalist Chad Kroeger’s distinctive voice and persona have also been points of contention. In an industry where uniqueness is celebrated, Kroeger’s voice has been both a blessing and a curse for the band. His vocal style and the band’s overall image have occasionally been perceived as lacking the authenticity some rock purists seek.

6. Overexposure

Remember the early 2000s when it felt like Nickelback was everywhere? Radio, TV, the internet—you name it, they were on it. Overexposure can lead to listener fatigue, and for some, too much Nickelback was, well, too much. When you can’t escape an artist, it’s natural for a segment of the audience to start pulling away.

Woman Slays Traditional Beauty Standards With “Chinning” Selfies on Travel Adventures

0

Every now and again, a revolutionary social trend is born.

Selfies, planking and Tebow-ing, are just a couple of examples of trends that started with a select few, and are now completely recognizable by the rest of the population.

The most recent trend on the rise is “Chinning,” and it’s taking over the Internet for all the right reasons.

Chinventures

21-year-old Michelle ‘Chin-Chelle’ Liu has traveled all over Europe, taking photos that look a bit different than your average selfie.

Rather than smiling at the camera and posing with a landmark behind her, Michelle’s photos show her “chinning.”

Chinventures

“Chinning was born out of my insecurity from middle school. I felt the pressures of society and my peers to look a certain way and felt that I wouldn’t be able to live up to those standards. As an alternative of traditional beauty, I started chinning to allow myself to embrace my quirky side and my friends thought it was funny.”

Chinventures

Michelle has kept up the trend for more than seven years, and her decision to be fearlessly herself has inspired thousands in the process.

Chinventures

“It has been such an honor to receive messages telling me my photos inspired them to be less self-conscious about their looks or that it made their day.”

Chinventures

Michelle says she hopes her photos encourage others to feel free to be themselves without fearing the judgment or pressures of society.

An 11-year-old is making headlines this week after attempting to bring an interfaith prayer club to her Washington elementary school and being told no. The same school allegedly approved a Pride club just one week prior.

Laura, a fifth-grader at Creekside Elementary School in Washington state, told Fox News that she was feeling alone in the classroom and the school at large as a young person with conviction. After learning that some friends had been feeling the same way, Laura proposed bringing kids in her school together to do good in their community. Though it was intended to be a prayer club that would do service projects, Laura insists the group welcomed all students, regardless of religion.

“I think that this is something that I am very passionate about. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t really want to make this happen, if I didn’t think that it would be a great opportunity for everyone,” Laura said.

After her request was denied, the Creekside principal met with Laura and her mother back in February and claimed that all funding for school clubs had been allocated back in October. A Pride club, however, had allegedly launched just one week before the meeting.

The principal informed Laura and her mother that the only option for the prayer club was to pay for space to meet like outside groups.

An Unconstitutional Refusal

First Liberty Institute, a nonprofit Christian legal organization representing Laura, another unidentified student and their parents, sent a letter to Issaquah School District officials about the incident.

“Denying the formation of a religious student club while allowing other clubs violates the Constitution,” said Kayla Toney, associate counsel at First Liberty Institute. “School officials at Creekside Elementary are engaged in religious discrimination against an eleven-year-old girl who simply wants to pray, feel support from other religious friends, and do community service.”

Just an hour away from Creekside elementary is Bremerton High School, which made headlines back in 2015 after firing assistant football coach, Joe Kennedy, for praying on the field after games.

The district had said it was trying to avoid the appearance that it was endorsing a religious point of view. They also expressed concern that players may have felt they had to participate or risk feeling separated from the team.

In a yearslong battle to fight for religious freedom, the Supreme Court voted in 2022 that Kennedy was protected by his first amendment right to free speech, and did indeed have the right to pray on the field. He was given his job back.

The case set precedence for First Liberty to fight Laura’s case with the Issaquah School District.

“The Court in Kennedy explained that… the First Amendment ‘doubly protects religious speech.’ These First Amendment protections extend to elementary school students expressing their sincere religious beliefs through voluntary club. Yet the school district flouted its First Amendment obligations when they refused to allow a student-led interfaith prayer club. Its unlawful action violates both the Free Exercise Clause and the Free Speech Clause,” the letter from First Liberty states.
