Savannah Guthrie Shares Her Testimony on TODAY
Savannah Guthrie has been open about her Christian faith and how it has been a guiding force in her life. In Mostly What God Does, she reflects on the impact of her faith, sharing anecdotes and moments where she found solace and strength through her spiritual beliefs.
Quoting her sister in an interview with TODAY, Guthrie says “God was the sixth member of our family…there were five of us and God was the sixth member of our family.”
Even as a little girl, Guthrie says she was “always in a conversation with God.”
Guthrie doesn’t shy away from discussing the challenges of maintaining faith in the face of life’s uncertainties, specifically reflecting on losing her father when she was just 16 years old.
“I came home on a Friday night having been out with friends as a teenager, walked in the door, and learned that my father had died,” she explains.
“It was earth shattering,” Guthrie says.
Guthrie recalls her father being a man of “deep faith and conviction.” It’s precisely that example that paved the way for her own faith to be unwavering even in the face of tragedy.
“I remember saying…this is when I need Him most. I can’t lose my dad and lose God at the same time.”
What followed was a profound journey of seeking God and discovering that the path He had her on was one that would sharpen and refine her.
